What happens when a Sustainable Growth Advisor visits my property?
A professional and knowledgeable person will visit your property and make helpful suggestions that can help you to have a more environmentally friendly lawn or landscape. After a thorough examination we will offer to provide our services to you with a detailed description of fees or leave you with the information we have already given to you at no cost. The Advisor will look at things such as quality of blossoms, turf density, light issues, moisture levels, compaction, insect damage or presence, tree vigor that may have been impacted by a chemical program, drainage, soil structure and mineral content. Before we begin, we will first eliminate All pesticides and synthetic fertilizers from the landscape. Treatment plans may include but not limited to: release of beneficial insects, microbes, organic fertilizers, burnout and pre-emergence weed treatments and other Organic/Sustainable methods.

What are the first steps after I give the ok for service to begin?
If you choose our service we will set up a time and schedule that fits your needs. We will ask you specific questions such as entry codes, pet requirements, time of day request and so on. Please bring to the attention of your Advisor or application person any problems such as pest, weeds or sick plants that require any additional attention.

Do your products smell?
A few times per year we do use natural enzyme digested fish fertilizer. This fish was originally destined for the dump after processing and has instead been converted to a nutrient rich soil amendment. We always recommend watering for best results for any of our programs and this smell often referred to as an “Ocean” like smell will disappear usually overnight. Most people do not mind. If you wish, we can use other products, price may vary from original quote. There is no noticeable odor except for pest control for any of our other products.

I have heard that organics take a while to work, is that true?
Organic fertilizers require soil microbiology to break them down and make them available to the plant and are therefore called “slow release” fertilizers. This has many benefits including long term feedings and less runoff into Idaho waters. There can be days or weeks until a noticeable change has occurred, this all depends on your soils conditons and levels of chemicals in your soil from previous applicators. Conventional lawn care fertilizers are readily available but also detrimental to the environment and runoff into our rivers and wells.

Should I rake or bag grass clippings?
Leaving grass clippings after frequent mowing (we recommend using the 1/3 model, cut no more than 1/3 of the grass height each time you cut and mow your grass at the highest levels to promote drought tolerance) will not build thatch and grass is mostly water which means it will decay faster especially in an Organic fertilization program. Grass also contains some minerals that will be returned to the soil. By removing clippings requires you to fertilize more. If by some reason you have clumps of grass on your lawn that may leave yellow spots, usually after waiting too long to mow, rake them up and compost them.

Can you control weeds organically?
We prevent weed growth in most cases by promoting healthy dense grass. We also prevent weeds by offering over seeding services to cover bare spots in your lawn and also spreading pre-emergent type fertilizers. In the event a weed appears we have special burnout vinegar sprays and mechanical removing equipment available on this site and also limited use by our techs on your site visit.
